Residency Fellowship
The Free Peoples of Russia House (FPRH) is launching a Residency Fellowship to support individuals conducting research on political, economic, and social issues related to Russia and Eastern Europe. While the scope of potential topics is broad, preference will be given to proposals that address recent developments and current global trends in the region.
The fellowship is open to individuals actively engaged in research and publication. However, strong preference will be given to upper-level undergraduate and master’s students in political science, international relations, journalism, media studies, or related fields.
As a residency fellowship, participants are expected to live on-site at the Free Peoples of Russia House, located just three blocks from the U.S. Capitol. In lieu of a stipend, the selected fellow will be provided with free furnished housing in this prime Washington, D.C. location. The fellow may maintain external work or academic commitments, provided they fulfill the responsibilities outlined in the fellowship.
The program will be conducted in English; however, some knowledge of, or interest in, Russian, Ukrainian, or Belorussian is a plus.
Fellows will receive access to the house and internet and will be considered active members of the FPRH team. This includes participating in weekly panels, public talks, lectures, screenings, and cultural events.
During the fellowship, the resident will develop a research paper on a topic selected by an FPRH committee from among two proposed topics submitted during the application process. The fellow will receive ongoing support from FPRH staff and may organize meetings relevant to their project. At least one to two public events will be thematically aligned with the fellow’s research, at which they will serve as a moderator or facilitator.
Upon completion of the program, the fellow will present their work publicly. Their final paper will be published on the FPRH website and may also be printed in brochure format and distributed to FPRH patrons.
Please note: Only one applicant will be selected for this fellowship.
