Lech Wałęsa

A Polish statesman and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, he led the Solidarity movement that helped end Communist rule in Central Europe. A former electrician at the Gdańsk Shipyard, he became an international symbol of peaceful resistance and democratic transformation in the 1980s. He served as President of Poland from 1990 to 1995 and remains a prominent global voice on democracy, civic courage, and the enduring challenges facing Europe and the transatlantic community.
